Synopsis:
During the 1960s, at the height of the Civil Rights Movement, local Philadelphia NAACP President, Cecil B. Moore, fought tirelessly to desegregate Girard College in Philadelphia. “FREEDOM SMITTY” is the extraordinary and emotionally charged story of a young African American freedom fighter by the name of Kenneth Smith, who would later come to be known as Freedom Smitty. Inspired by Cecil B. Moore and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., in 1965, at age 16, Kenneth Smith made the difficult decision to drop out of Thomas Edison High School. He became one of “Cecil B. Moore’s Young Militants”, and joined in the struggle to desegregate Girard College. Empowered by the possibilities of social changes in America for African American people, Freedom Smitty, aka Kenneth Abdul Salaam would spend the rest of his life immersed in the struggle for Civil Rights and equality for African American people.
